welcome to the 1914-1918
connections site.
This
website is really 3 sites in one, the connecting theme is of course the
1914-18 war. My approach to this is based on access to original and
in many cases unique information. I work in the Brussels Air Museum
restoring two German aircraft of the latter part of that period, the
Halberstadt CV and the LVG CVI which were both used for artillery
spotting and reconnaisance.
The other part of the
1914-1918 connection is my great
uncle's diary
which
only came to light relatively recently . Much
research has already been done and there is still much to do,
nevertheless I have decided to publish what I have in the hope that
more information about 216 Siege Battery will be forthcoming.

photographs, pre-restoration and as restoration begins; of the Brussels

of its type left in the world. A detailed photo study with comments and

Brussels Air Museum's LVG CVI currently undergoing restoration. Highly
detailed photographs and commentary of the restoration to date .
Photographs and commentary on post-war use including photos of a
"faux-pas" (which displeased the French) in which Albert 1st, King of
the Belgians decided to use a captured LVG CVI to fly to the meeting of
European heads of state at Versailles. Here you will also find free
downloadable copies of LVG News 1-10 which details the
ongoing

The diary
of
Sgt.Albert H Lewis MM, 216 Siege battery RGA.
A
unique
historical document published for the first time with
comments,
context and explanation . The diary was kept from when he landed in
France late in 1916 right up until, to put it in his own words...."I
caught a piece of it (in the leg)" in October 1918. |

| A
few photos of our new "Tilting engine support system" designed
specifically for the Benz IV engines of both the LVG CVI and the
Halberstadt CV, it can be adapted to accomodate many inline engines of
different makes. The tilting frame was conceived, designed and built by
J-P Brahy and M.Lewis |
 |
| Accessibility to all parts of the engine are much improved which should accelerate the renovation of the engine. |

| A
report of a visit made by members of the Shuttleworth restoration team
to Brussels in 1968. This is a valuable insight into the level of
detailed preparation and research necessary before any restoration
takes place and also provides the Brussels restoration team with an
idea of the state of 4981 nearly 40 years ago. |
